Sweden is a Nordic country on the Scandinavian Peninsula in Northern Europe. Sweden borders with Norway and Finland, and is connected to Denmark by a bridge-tunnel. Sweden is the third lar gest country in the European Union by area,. Sweden’s capital city is Stockholm, which is also the largest city. Today, Sweden is a constitutional monarchy with a parliamentary democracy form of government and a highly developed economy. Sweden has the world’s eighth highest per capita income. In 2011, it ranked fourth in the world in The Economist’s Democracy Index and tenth in the United Nations’ Human Development Index (third on the inequality-adjusted HDI). In 2010, the World Economic Forum ranked Sweden as the second most competitive country in the world, after Switzerland. Sweden is a country where winter is winter and summer is summer. Although the northern tip of the country lies above the Arctic Circle, its climate is tempered by the Gulf Stream. Sweden is an export-oriented mixed economy. The 20 largest (by turnover in 2007) companies registered in Sweden are Volvo, Ericsson, Vattenfall, Skanska, Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications AB, Svenska Cellulosa Aktiebolaget, Electrolux, Volvo Personvagnar, TeliaSonera, Sandvik, Scania, ICA, Hennes & Mauritz, IKEA, Nordea, Preem, Atlas Copco, Securitas, Nordstjernan and SKF. Innovative research at Swedish universities and companies has resulted in a number of successful inventions. Some examples are: the computer mouse, Bluetooth for internet mobility, the pacemaker, the ball bearing, the Tetra Pak beverage packaging system, the dialysis machine and internet applications such as the online music streaming service Spotify and the free internet calling service Skype.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENT

The completion of an upper-secondary school program conferring eligibility for university studies in the same country and corresponding in level to the equivalent program in Sweden. Entrance requirements for a particular course or program are established independently at each academic institution. Every university and university college has its own procedure for selecting among eligible applicants. The criteria applied include: grades obtained, results from previous courses, assessment of work samples, interview results, special admission tests and work experience. These criteria vary from institution to institution. For English-language programs, you should have documented proficiency in English, for example in the form of TOEFL or IELTS test results. The required score is decided by the individual university and may therefore vary.

ADMISSION FEE & SCHOLARSHIPS

Tuition fees apply to students who are not citizens of the EU, EEA or Switzerland. The fees apply to bachelors and master’s programs and courses. Universities set their own fees. At the same time, scholarships are also available. Additionally, Swedish universities themselves also offer scholarships directly to non-EU/EEA students. In addition to university fees, you will need to cover your living expenses during your study period. This is a requirement for acquiring a residence permit.
